A Logic of Acting, Sensing, Knowing, and Only Knowing

چکیده
This work is motivated by the existence of two useful but quite different knowledge representation formalisms, the situation calculus due to McCarthy, and the logic of only knowing due to Levesque. In this paper, we propose the logic , which combines both approaches in a clean and natural way. We present a semantics for which generalizes the semantics of to account for actions, and a sound and complete set of axioms for which generalizes the Lin and Reiter foundational axioms of the situation calculus to account for only knowing. The logic is compatible with earlier work on knowledge and action in that the solution to the frame problem for knowledge proposed by Scherl and Levesque becomes now a theorem of . We also demonstrate that the logic avoids certain anomalies present in related work by Lakemeyer. Finally we provide a mapping from into such that a sentence of is valid iff its mapping is a theorem of , thus providing, for the first time, a complete axiomatic characterization of .

AOL: A logic of Acting, Sensing, Knowing, and Only Knowing
This work is motivated by the existence of two useful but quite different knowledge representation formalisms, the situation calculus due to McCarthy, and the logic OL of only knowing due to Levesque. In this paper, we propose the logic AOL, which combines both approaches in a clean and natural way. We present a semantics for AOL which generalizes the semantics of OL to account for actions, and...
متن کاملESP: A Logic of Only-Knowing, Noisy Sensing and Acting
When reasoning about actions and sensors in realistic domains, the ability to cope with uncertainty often plays an essential role. Among the approaches dealing with uncertainty, the one by Bacchus, Halpern and Levesque, which uses the situation calculus, is perhaps the most expressive. However, there are still some open issues. For example, it remains unclear what an agent’s knowledge base woul...
متن کاملOn the decidability and complexity of reasoning about only knowing
We study reasoning in Levesque’s logic of only knowing. In particular, we first prove that extending a decidable subset of first-order logic with the ability of reasoning about only knowing preserves decidability of reasoning, as long as quantifying-in is not allowed in the language, and define a general method for reasoning about only knowing in such a case. Then, we show that the problem of r...
متن کاملA Sound and Complete Tableau Calculus for Reasoning about only Knowing and Knowing at Most
We define a tableau calculus for the logic of only knowing and knowing at most ONL, which is an extension of Levesque’s logic of only knowing OL. The method is based on the possible-world semantics of the logic ONL, and can be considered as an extension of known tableau calculi for modal logic K45. From the technical viewpoint, the main features of such an extension are the explicit representat...
متن کاملOnly-Knowing: Taking It Beyond Autoepistemic Reasoning
The idea of only-knowing a collection of sentences has been previously shown to have a close connection with autoepistemic logic. Here we propose a more general account of only-knowing that captures not only autoepistemic logic but default logic as well. This allows us not only to study the properties of default logic in terms of an underlying model of belief, but also the relationship among di...
